"I cannot say, and I will not say

That he is dead. He is just away.

With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand,

He has wandered into an unknown land.

And left us dreaming how very fair

It needs must be since he lingers there."   Emily Dickinson

Still Remembering Micah

December 17, 2009 was 4 years since when Micah went home to be forever with his wonderful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. December 22nd was his birthday and he would have been 20 years old. It is hard to believe.

            Remembering Micah.

Drawing near to God.

This is what we had as the title on the bulletin for Micah’s memorial service. It is still true today. We are still missing Micah and still drawing near to God. We read one of Micah’s favorite scriptures, Isaiah 61, the morning of the 17th in our family devotions. It gives us such hope in rejoicing in our Savior. Without Jesus, we would have no hope. But God our heavenly Father loved us so much that He sent His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, to come as a baby to live a perfect sinless life, to die on the cross for our sins and to be raised to life on the third day, conquering sin and death. Jesus gives eternal life to all who believe. If Jesus had not been born and had not lived a perfect life and had not died for our sins and had not risen from the dead, we would have no hope. If Micah had lived a full life of 80 years, that would have been all we would have had. But because of Jesus, we had almost 16 years with Micah here on earth, but we will have eternity with the Lord and with our sweet Micah! We have hope.

Christmas time is a hard time of year for us and for so many people who have lost loved ones or who are going through a trial right now. For some reason this year was especially difficult for me. Many times I was overcome with sorrow and sadness in missing Micah. In our culture many people do not understand grief and sorrow. Most likely it is because they don’t want to think about death and dying. I am so thankful that I serve a loving and compassionate God who cares and who grieves with me and who comforts me.  He is a God of all comfort and He bears all my grief and all my sorrow. Jesus wept. He understands. Father God gave His only son to die for our sins. He knows the loss of His son. Jesus was forsaken by His Father. He knows grief and sorrow.

When you go through suffering your faith is tried. It is good to know that Jesus Himself is praying for us that our faith would not fail.

Luke 22:32 But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren." NKJV

No matter how difficult our trials are, God is faithful and He loves us. We can trust in Him. We have no where else to turn. He is our only help in times of trouble. So keep clinging to Jesus. He is the one you should go to for help. When Micah died, we were broken inside more than words can tell, but we have found through the years that God is enough.

John 6:68 But Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life . 69 Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." NKJV

Another of my favorite scriptures that encourages me in difficult times is Habakkuk 3:17-19.

17 Though the fig tree may not blossom,

Nor fruit be on the vines;

Though the labor of the olive may fail,

And the fields yield no food;

Though the flock may be cut off from the fold,

And there be no herd in the stalls —

18 Yet I will rejoice in the Lord,

I will joy in the God of my salvation.

19 The Lord God is my strength;

He will make my feet like deer's feet,

And He will make me walk on my high hills.

To the Chief Musician. With my stringed instruments.

NKJV

            When all is failing and falling apart in our life, God is still good and we can still praise Him and joy in Him. He is our strength and He will enable us to walk through whatever He calls us to.

            Blessings to you this year.

                        Laura

Authority in Church

This is a quote by Elisabeth Elliot

Men are to be in authority in the church.
Women are to be subject to their husbands.
Because:
Men represent the authority of Christ.
Women represent the bride of Christ.
It has nothing to do with competence.

The Educational Archives, Vol. 3: Driver's Ed.

 I wanted to give an update about our family and Mark's job situation. I was just thinking about how God used Hannah's driver's ed instructor to encourage me about His provision for us from the very beginning, when she surprised me after a driving session by buying my groceries. That was the first of God sending us provision. The next thing He did was note worthy. I went to the grocery store the next week and my daughter Priscilla saw some roses for sale that had seen better days. She mentioned that they should just give those away. So she put them in our cart and when we got to the register she asked if we could have them. The cashier asked the manager and they gave them to us. Then when we got home Priscilla put her creativity to work and put them in a vase, picked off dead peddles and we had a beautiful bouquet of 12 roses! I really felt that God was saying,"I love you!" with those roses. He has continued to uphold us and to strengthen us through out this time. It has been 4 1/2 months now and God has been so faithful. We have been blessed by many secret gifts as well as those from family and friends that gave gifts. Mark has not had any job opportunities but after much prayer he has decided to start a photography business. Please pray for wisdom as he proceeds and if you know of anyone who wants their picture taken let us know. He is also continuing to apply for jobs in hopes that something will come available. If he did get a job he could do the photography on the side until it was profitable and able to support the family.
        God bless you richly as you continue to love and treasure Jesus!
                                     Love, Laura

Snow adventures

Real southerners have more fun in the snow than those northerners of which I use to be but I converted. This is an account of our snow adventures. We had a little snow about two inches two times. My children take advantage of what little we do have. In fact we got so little that they were sledding on rocks and sticks and other things poking out of the snow. I sled down the hill and because I am so much heavier than my little girls, I flew down very fast and went into the woods and crashed into a tree! I cracked the sled. Then it eventually broke into four pieces but that just meant 4 people could sled at one time. They each had the piece that fit them the best. Lydia, who is 4 now, had the smallest one but she didn't quite get the hang of it. She would walk up the hill with her piece of sled and then put it down so she could sled but it would go down before her. Then she would laugh and go get it and climb up again only to do the same thing again. One time she figured out she needed to put it down behind her and quickly get on, but I only saw her manage that once! However, she had fun anyway. I wish I had a video of that. We also made snow angels in the snow. We got our instruction on how to make them from John Piper’s video. They didn’t quite look the same as his.  Ours were full of leaves but that was ok. It was the fire of God. We actually got a video of that. Elisabeth went sledding in her dress with stockings and pants under it. She had a scarf wrapped around her head and looked like Laura on Little House in the Big Woods. We did get a picture of that. Gabriel took his bike and went down the hill swishing back and forth as if he was on skies! Then there was snowboarding, which was sledding standing up and swishing back and forth. Bethany and Elisabeth had a fun game of jumping on top of each other. They would jump on the one who was going down and crashing into them as they tried to come up. We all enjoyed the sparkle and shine of the snow glistening on the trees. It was so beautiful. I do love the snow especially those big fluffy flakes as they fall. It is amazing to think of how God has washed us of our sins, white as snow.

 Isa 1:18

18 "Come now, and let us reason together,"
Says the Lord,
"Though your sins are like scarlet,
They shall be as white as snow ;
Though they are red like crimson,
They shall be as wool.
NKJV
